The Listener & The Giver

My, Devotion to Him #2

VERSE PASSAGE: John 4:10 “Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” – NIV

The woman sat there and questioned Jesus. Talking to Him about Him being a Jew and her a Samaritan. Jesus asked this woman for a drink of water, but it was not water He was interested in. He wanted to give this woman eternal life. God is the greatest giver there ever has been, is, and will forever be. He lives to give. When He ask something of us we can be assured that it is for a wonderful reason and in our obedience to God, He will multiply and give back. He seeks a willing vessel and one whom will listen and obey His words. God is not interested in the water we can give Him. We don’t have anything to offer God that He doesn’t already have. God wants us. By asking of our time, money, and desire. He is asking us to give of ourselves. He is a seeker of obedience. Many people have walked away from God sad just like the rich young ruler because all they could think about what they would have to give up (Mark 10:22).

It’s sad to see that people are more worried about what they have to give up than being joyful in what they would gain when they make that choice to follow Christ. Yes you might have to give some possessions, things you value, items in which took you hard labor to afford. How easy it is to look at what we could lose because they are stuff that is ours. There is nothing compared to what God offers us in exchange for us to obey and follow. Just as Jesus turned this woman’s attention toward what He had to offer her, we need to focus our attention on what the Lord has given us in Christ and what He will continue to give us. Remember God seeks one whom will obey. He has you in His eyesight, you are within range of blessings beyond your own thinking. You may be asked by God to give something it may be a test of your obedience to Him. Focus on Him and His request. Do so with a humble heart. Remember the Samaritan woman at the well.

God bless,
