My, Devotion to Him #31
Peace is one of the greatest feelings we can have in Christ. Yet, many do not understand how to obtain peace through the word, or do not know that they can obtain it, and some have a hard time getting it. I’m going to use a passage in which is given to us in Romans. Which is full of information. I’m going to break down the passage and use other bible references to draw a clearer picture of this passage and support it. Which I hope will help in obtaining the Key of Peace.
VERSE PASSAGE: Romans 5:1-2 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.” – NIV
Great passage. I love the feeling of peace. Peace in uncertainty, peace with stressful times, peace in hard times, peace in all things. A calm collective feeling poured out on you. A quietness in the storm. You do not have to be in the eye to have peace. You can have peace even during the hardest trials you face. When it seems like all sides are closing in on you, you can have peace even when everything seems to be falling apart.
Let’s break this down.
“Therefore, since we have been justified”
VERSE PASSAGE: Romans 4:25 “He (Jesus) was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” – NIV
So, Christ was handed over to death for our sins. Our sins is what put Jesus to death. However, in doing so He was raised from death for our justification.
Some may ask “I don’t understand”. Well the usage of the word “for” in this context in Greek has two meanings. One of which is “in order to produce”. So, He did this. Did what? He died for us to produce justification. Okay, but what is justification? The word “Justification” is broken down as “the action of showing something to be right or reasonable.” So in His death and Him being raised again was done in order to produce justification in which made us right.
“through faith”
VERSE PASSAGE: Romans 3:28 “For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.” – NIV
We were not justified because of our works. Justification is not only a religious term, it is a legal term. Because we were justified by faith through Christ in His death and resurrection. We were found not guilty. We were guilty. In which our punishment would’ve been death and sentenced to hell. However, because of Jesus dying. In which He took on the sins of us. The Verdict came in and He was found guilty and paid the price. The price was death. Now, in His resurrection we became justified through Him. Those who are of Christ are not guilty any longer. They do not have to pay the price and serve their term in hell.
“we have peace with God”
VERSE PASSAGE: Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” – NIV
Those who have the favor of God may have peace. Who has favor? Those who have been justified through Christ. All who are saved may have peace for they have favor with God because they have been found not guilty in Christ.
“through our Lord Jesus Christ”
VERSE PASSAGE: John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – NIV
“through whom we have gained access”
VERSE PASSAGE: Ephesians 2:18 “For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” – NIV
This last verse is amazing. The trinity spoken about right here. Through Him (Jesus) we have access to the Father (God) by one Spirit (Holy Spirit). We did not have access to God before Christ. We could not just enter into worship and be in the presence of God. We were not able to come boldly before His throne. We didn’t have that kind of access. However, through Jesus’ death and resurrection we have been granted access in the spirit to unite ourselves to God through Christ Jesus!
Now, how is it we can have assurance on Salvation, but yet stress on simple issues. I’m not trying to bash anyone. But how can we have peace of mind that by grace through faith in Christ we have been justified and given salvation all who are in Him which results in eternal life. Yet, we worry about this and that. How can we have peace about eternity but no peace about losing a job. This doesn’t make sense.
Jesus has just done the most incredible thing for us. Give us salvation. We do not have to worry about what will happen when we die. Those who are in Him have eternal life through Him. He has just given us peace about the biggest and most important issue in our life. Yet, we think that He can do that and we have peace about that but He is not able to give peace about our health issue? Court dates? Jobs? Family? Marriages? Decisions? Really?
Are we really going to limit God? He gives salvation so we do not have to burn in hell for all eternity. And yet He does not have the power to bring peace to us in stressful times? He has done this but yet is not capable of handling peace in a daily issue.
Once Christ died and was rose again. From that point all who come to Him may obtain salvation and in salvation they may have the peace of eternal life. He didn’t say the first 100, 1,000, million, or billion. ALL WHO COME TO HIM ARE JUSTIFIED BY HIM. Yet, He can’t give me peace in an issue that doesn’t affect the rest of mankind. I’m not belittling anyone. But we need to come to a place in our life where God is above all else! He is God of Gods! There is none like Him. He can do all things and supply all things unto us. If He has given you peace in salvation He can give you peace in the little problems in which we deem are bigger than Him. In which in doing so we receive no peace. But when we declare He is bigger than all things we will obtain peace in every area of our life.
VERSE PASSAGE: Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – NIV
A definition of Rest: Peace of mind
Know that in Him we can have peace. We can come when we are weary (tired) and burdened down. He will give rest (peace).
