My, Devotion to Him #59
It’s a common thing that tends to happen a lot more often than we would like. That one thing is starting our day off bad. We need to reset. We need to start getting into the habit of starting our days off right. If we start our day off bad this can lead to negativity, worrying about issues and challenges that we may face during the day without a thought to the many blessings we have received in our lives and what is truly important in our lives. Starting each day coming before the Lord is key to starting each day off on the right note.
1. Start The Day In His Word.
VERSE PASSAGE: Psalms 119:11-16 “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts. and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.” – NIV
VERSE PASSAGE: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” – NIV
David tells us that he has hidden God’s word in his heart so that he might not sin against God. Paul tells Timothy the value of Holy Scripture. Just a few short verses is a great way to open our hearts to God’s love and get things started off on a positive note.
2. Take Some Time To Express Love Towards Your Family.
VERSE PASSAGE: Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” – NIV
It does no one any good if we wake up on the wrong side of the bed! Start your day out with love. The two greatest commands were to love God with every fiber in us and to love our neighbor.
When we take time to express to our spouse/kids/parents we assure them that they are predominant in our life. In the same way we need to express our love for God. To show Him outwardly that we love Him and that we view Him worthy enough to take the time to express our love for Him. If we can grasp how much our relationship with Him would change and how much our day would change if we woke up everyday and thanked God for who He is and just loved Him before we left the house for the rest of the day it would truly be a game changer.
For your spouse/kids/parents It only takes a moment to leave a note on the counter or to slip a piece of paper into a book bag, or a text message with a few words of encouragement to help them start their day off in the right way as well. Is that not worth it? The thought that your message to that person could shape their day.
3. Stay Positive.
It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed in the morning with the challenges you anticipate to meet that day. Start your morning off counting your blessings and this will lead to starting the day in a positive way. Positive people are great to be around.
Another bonus of becoming a positive person is that you are directly and indirectly helping to shape other people’s day.
4. Leave The Baggage At The foot of the bed.
VERSE PASSAGE: 1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – NIV
It’s easy to start the day off dwelling on negatives of a previous day. As followers of Christ we should not partake in pondering on past failures but focus on our service and future with the Lord. We are told to release our past sins to the Lord and not dwell on them. Cast all worries, anxiety and anything else upon Him. Let Him take care of them and seek rest through Him.
5. Start The Day In A Word Of Prayer.
VERSE PASSAGE: Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – NIV
What better way to start of the day than to pray. Pray for your day, pray to have a great day, pray that you have the chance to shine Jesus’ light into someone today. It can be a long prayer or small prayer. But starting your day off in prayer will do wonders and will start to help shape your day into the right kinda day.
Be blessed my brothers and sisters in Christ.
