The Jesus Temptation Series Part 5: Opportune Time

My, Devotion to Him #92

VERSE PASSAGE: Luke 4:13 “When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.” – NIV

After tempting Jesus with what he was able to. After brining an assault against Jesus through temptations. The devil left.

We sometimes give Satan too much credit. He does not have a limitless number of temptations that he can pull on us. As 1 John 2:16 says, there are three areas where the devil tempts us which are:

1. The lust of the flesh.

2. The lust of the eyes.

3. The pride of life.

Jesus’ three temptations relate to these three areas.

By crediting Satan a limitless temptations list, we have built up our adversary to be bigger than he is.

VERSE PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” – NIV

Satan would like you to think that he is tougher than he really is. One of his greatest weapons is intimidation, but he has been defeated.

The last part of Luke 4:13 is significant. It states that the devil left Jesus until an opportune time. Temptations are temporary. Yes there will be temptations and we will have to deal with them at different periods of our life. But look at the very last part “until an opportune time” The devil will come around again when we are weak. When there is blood in the water he will be back. When we are alone he’ll come. When we are down and tired he’ll come. When we are hungry and thirsty he’ll come. When we launch a fast he’ll come. He is an opportunist and will come when he has the advantage.

Today, realize that whatever temptation your facing its only temporary. It is seasonal. We can stand on the Word each and every time. The devil will flee if we resist and we resist by standing firm on what is written in the Word.

Be blessed my brothers and sisters in Christ.
