I’ve often heard a lot of stuff said about Discipleship. Some I don’t believe is true and some I think are.
It is true that you can’t necessarily put a number or percentage on discipleship growth, but you can tell over time if it has happened or is happening.
Let’s look at some indications that a Church is actually making disciples.
1. Complaining About Church Work Is Minimal.
VERSE PASSAGE: Philippians 2:14 “Do everything without grumbling or arguing” – NIV
2. Leaders Give Up More Than Others.
VERSE PASSAGE: Matthew 23:11 “The greatest among you will be your servant.” – NIV
3. Congregations Celebrate Over New Salvation’s.
VERSE PASSAGE: Luke 15:7 “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” – NIV
4. Members Put Others Above Themselves.
VERSE PASSAGE: Philippians 2:4 “not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” – NIV
5. The Church Tries To Attract & Bring In The Lost.
VERSE PASSAGE: Acts 15:19 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.” – NIV
6. There’s Joy During Trails.
VERSE PASSAGE: James 1:2 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,” – NIV
7. The Teaching Is Balanced Between Truth & Grace.
VERSE PASSAGE: John 1:17 “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” – NIV
8. Church Finances Are Funded By Cheerful Giving.
VERSE PASSAGE: 2 Corinthians 9:7-8 “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” – NIV
9. Encouragement Encompasses The Church.
VERSE PASSAGE: 1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” – NIV
10. Members Care For Each Other Well.
VERSE PASSAGE: Acts 4:34-35 “that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.” – NIV
