Are You A Fool?

My, Devotion to Him #162
Verse Passage: Matthew 7:24-25 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” – NIV
Something that can never be stressed or said enough is the importance of God’s Word. His Word is so critical to us because it’s His Word. His Word actually written down for us to ponder on, learn from, teach from, train from, etc. His Word is so important.
Jesus taught us that in this passage. There were two men and both of them heard the Word. However, Jesus only calls one of them wise. Why? I mean some would think that Jesus was rude. He wasn’t. He simply pointed out that those who put His Word into action (practice) are wise. Those who don’t and just hear, hear, hear.; but never actually use any of it, they are foolish! Plain and simple.
Now some churches, pastors, authors, and even just regular Christians might not come out and state that. Because we live in a world now where we have to be “cautious” and not “hurt” peoples “feelings”. But Jesus wasn’t about making people feel good. He said “listen! If anyone hears My Word and actually does something with it; they will be like a wise man who builds his house on a rock. And whatever comes against that house it will still be standing in the end, because it was built on a rock.” (paraphrased)
Here are some things that people might say to counter this.
“I can’t put it into action because I haven’t spent enough time in the Bible.”
My response, “stop what your doing and get into the Bible! We need to start making the Bible the number one priority in our life and stop treating it like a side gig. If you don’t know the Word get into the Word! There are so many resources to help break down the Bible and understand things. There are studies, devotionals, reading plans, and even good ol’ fashion cracking it open and reading it.”
“I have His Word but no place to use it.”
My response, “if you have a house, a job, a school, a Facebook, Twitter, city, or anything else where people are around you or keeping up with you. There is your platform to use the Word of God! It could simply be one person who need encouragement from a brother or sister in the Lord. Someone who has just lost a family member. Someone who is ill. Someone who always sits by themselves. A family member whose not saved. The door is wide open! God didn’t call everyone to travel the world and preach. If He did then who would save the your city? Your community? Your school? Job? Or even your household?”
“I am too young or too old to use the Word of God”
My response, “God has not placed any biblical limits on you preventing you from preaching His Word. A seven year old can turn their family to God just like a hundred year old can. God didn’t say you have to wait till your twenty something with a degree before you can preach or share my Word and you have to retire at sixty-five. Even though that’s how many Christians and churches act. God wants to use all people in all kinds of different ways to reach the lost sheep! Stop following man-made limitations and follow God limitless opportunities!”
When will take action? When will we actually put His Word into action? Why do we wait for a stormy day and then come running to Him?
Build your house on a rock! We need to stop playing around and get busy! God isn’t asking for you to quite your full time job and just focus on Him. He is asking us to use what we heard from His Word. If you know of someone who needs prayer, pray! Some people are teaching that the Word is so complicated and you need this and that in order to use it. But that’s just wrong! Don’t be afraid to study His Word and seek out someone you trust spiritually. Go over it with them if you need to. See if what you are understanding from a certain passage is correct. You might need a little tweaking, but that helps us in the long run! Once you understand it, use it.
Don’t wait till your storm comes and then lose your cool and frantically studying the Word. Do if today! And when your storm comes you will calm, collective, and you will be able to withstand the storm.
The devil doesn’t want you to study the Word because he knows that the Word is powerful because it’s God’s written Word. It already wrote! It can’t be undone, rewrote, or corrected! It’s infallible from book to book, front to back. He wants you to fall in the storm. But God wants to see you standing tall and confident like a wise man because you decided to build your house on a rock!
In the end you need to decide are you gonna be the fool and not put His Word into practice. Or are you gonna be the wise one and build your house on the rock by putting the Word into action. The choice is yours.
God bless!
