Get Your Priorities Straight

My, Devotion to Him #171
In Matthew 6:33 Jesus tells us to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and all things shall be given unto you. In our daily lives it is so easy to lose focus on our service to the Lord and to get wrapped up in the material things and the cares of this world. But Paul tells us in Philippians 3:20 that we are visitors here on earth and that our true citizenship is in heaven. Below is a discussion of why God deserves our full attention and service and how we may praise, love and serve Him more fully in our day to day lives.

Seek Ye First the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 not to store up earthly treasure but to seek first the Kingdom of heaven.

WHY?

1. Because He is God.

Paul tells us in Colossians 1:16-17 that He is the creator of all things and by Him all things exist. In Philippians 2:10 Paul tells us that He is the head of all principality and power.

2. Because of his Sacrifice.

Jesus tells Nicodemus in John 3:16-17 the purpose of His coming. In Luke 23:46 Jesus suffered an agonizing death as atonement for our sins.

3. His incredible Love for us.

In Luke 23:34 Jesus forgave those that crucified Him even through His agony. Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:8-9 that we are saved by His grace even though we are sinners.

HOW?

4. Through Service & Obedience.

In 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 Paul tells the church at Corinth to approach your service as an athlete running a race. Paul knew that the Corinthian’s were fans of sporting events and Olympic races. Paul likened their service to Christ as a runner running a race. By doing so he encouraged them to pour every ounce of energy and commitment into their daily service and walk with Jesus. Joshua was a great example of devotion and service when he told the children of Israel in Joshua 24:15 to choose this day whom you will serve. But as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

5. Through Worship.

In Psalm 92:1-4 David said he will praise God both morning and night.

6. Have compassion for people.

In Matthew 22:39 Jesus said to love thy neighbor as you love thyself. Also in Matthew 25:34-40 Jesus said whatever you have done for the least among you, you have done for Him.

7. Have a passion for Christ.

In Matthew 22:37 Jesus said to love thy God with all thy mind, all thy soul and all thy heart.

Be blessed!
