What Is A God Chaser?

My, Devotion to Him #173

Many times in church or speaking with spiritual leaders I’ve heard a phrase “God chasing.” This was in relation to “Being a God chaser”, “Chasing after God”, “Chasing God” The question remained “what is a God chaser?”

1. A God Chaser is a person who has a passion for God.

Definition of Passion: Passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion.

Definition of Passion: Passion is having an intense desire or enthusiasm for something.

2. A God Chaser seeks His presence.

Definition of Seek: Seek is attempting or desiring to obtain or achieve something.

Verse passage: Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” – NIV

3. A God Chaser presses on in an attempt to obtain the impossible in hopes that the uncatchable might catch them.

We press on. That is being persistent and in a constant state of relentlessness. Not stoping in our search of God.

4. A God Chaser seeks nothing for themselves in the effort to catch God.

Verse passage: Philippines 3:12 “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” – NIV

Paul says “not that I have already obtained or have arrived at my goal”

This is a continuous thing till death. We don’t chase for 1 month and then bam we have arrived. It’s not 1 year or 40 years. It’s a lifetime. We will never reach our goal till we get to Heaven.

Paul goes on to say “he presses on to take hold for which Christ Jesus took hold of him”

Paul is talking about a race. Paul makes references through his books about the race of faith. As a runner you are running to the end. You are running till you hit the mark that tells you it’s over. Paul talks about himself running through this life as a Christian and reaching for the end prize and that’s Heaven. Not only that but he is in search of Jesus. He makes note that Jesus took hold of him which is in reference to when he was saved. Paul is talking about this because since he was taken he is now in search of grasping Christ himself as Christ grasped ahold of him.

Verse passage: Psalm 63:8 “I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.” – NIV

“I cling to you”

Definition of Cling: To hold tight to by grasping or embracing.

EXAMPLE OF GOD CHASERS

The Bible records examples of those who diligently sought after God and were found of Him. They include Enoch (Genesis 5:22, 24); Moses (Exodus 33:13-23); Jacob (Genesis 32:24-30); Ezra (Ezra 7:10); Daniel (Daniel 6:10-22); David (Psalm 63:1-8); and Paul (Philippians 3:7-14). They were not chasing after God because of what they wanted for themselves alone, but whole-heartedly believed God and wanted more of Him.

VERSE PASSAGE: John 6:65-68 “He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.” From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

Verse Passage: John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” – NIV

THE GOD CHASER’S MAP

A map gives a representation of a location needed for navigation. Anyone chasing after God must understand His spiritual location. While God is omnipresent (which means He is everywhere all the time), His manifested presence is only for those who diligently chase after Him.

1. The Lord can be found in a place of praise.

Verse passage: Psalm 100:3-4 “Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” – NIV

2. The Lord can be found in a place of Prayer & Fasting.

When we come into prayer we are bringing ourselves closer to Him and we are in direct communication with Him.

As we fast we are submitting our flesh, our minds, our whole body in an effort to draw from God’s spiritual food that He has for us. This is an effort to tap into the supernatural be in the spiritual realm.

3. The Lord can be found when we strive for holiness.

VERSE PASSAGE: Hebrews 12:14 “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” – NIV

4. The Lord can be found in His Word.

His Word is alive, it’s breathing, within its pages holds His very own words, His power is in every page, every single word. When we read the Word we are speaking out loud the Words of God.

IN CLOSING

VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 34:4-17

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth. The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”

Chase after God with all your might and determination. The eyes of the Lord is looking throughout the land. He is seeking for a heart that’s completely His. Those who diligently seek after Him will find Him.

I pray this devotional touches you as it has me numerous times!

God Bless!
