What Do You Treasure?

My, Devotion to Him #177

Verse Passage: Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – NIV

Your heart is the core of who you are. It’s your desires, your dreams, your hopes and fears, your motives and intentions, your essence. The stuff that captivates and fascinates us is what we treasure. It impacts how we spend our time, money, and pretty much everything else. It’s what we think about the most and can’t stop talking about.

Today what do you treasure? Have you sat down and thought long and hard about what you treasure? Have you thought about what’s something you can go without? If you think you know what you treasure then go and ask your friends or family what they think you treasure. I wonder if your answers would match.

See other people can see what you focus on, they see what you spend most of your time towards, and what you talk about. They can come pretty close to summing up what you most likely treasure. But be careful you might find your friends or families opinion clashing with yours.

Jesus draws a clear line here and states that whatever we treasure in this life will have our hearts. You might be surprised at some of the things people treasure in a temporary life. Not realizing that many will leave out Jesus.

What we find is that our heart is with the things we treasure and with that our talent, time, money, emotion, etc goes where the heart goes. The heart is like a leader where it goes so does many other things. We need to be careful where we let our heart go.

Sit back and think about this question for a minute. What do you treasure in this life? Don’t automatically get holy on say Jesus. In order to fix a problem you must be admit there is a problem. Do you treasure family, friends, money? You need to admit what you truly treasure because if its not Jesus then you need to work on what you treasure. We need to get to a place where we treasure Jesus, we treasure the Word of God, we treasure time with God in prayer, we treasure Him on a spiritual and even on a intimate level.

You can tell yourself all day long you treasure Him. But the next question is “is that where your heart is?”. You see many can proclaim to love Jesus but if their heart is not there then they simply do not treasure Him the way they thought they did.

Ask your friends and family. This one is important. Because people should be able to see your love for Christ. They should be able to see how important He is to you.

Today let’s make that change and get refocused on Jesus and make Him our treasure.
