Slaying Giants

My, Devotion to Him #232

Verse Passage: Psalm 44:1-8 “We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago. With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish. It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them. You are my King and my God, who decrees victories for Jacob. Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes. I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame. In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.” – NIV

There was a giant in the Bible. Not a spiritual giant. He wasn’t even a giant in any business industry or political parties. He was an actual giant. His name was Goliath. He was the champion warrior for the Philistine army. This is a story that has been told over and over but one thing that is great about the Bible is these stories can be told over and over because God can release an unlimited amount of messages through each story and verse.

We are going to pick up in 1 Samuel 17:41. Goliath was coming closer to David. He had his shield bearer in front of him. Goliath cursed David by the names of his gods. But David with boldness responded “You come with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord, the God of Israel”

David threw the stone with his sling and hit Goliath in the forehead. The stone sank in and Goliath fell down and was dead. David did this through God’s name. He had defeated the giant who rose up against God and against His people.

Today, are you facing a giant? Is there a weakness, financial problem, addiction, relational issue, or something else? Sometimes these struggle come to us as giants. The world sees them as scary things. They are weakened and destroyed by these things. Sometimes our efforts may not seem to be working against these giants. And our efforts won’t ever work unless we are combating these giants in the correct manner. David relied on God. He declared that he was going to do combat with his giant in the name of the Lord. It is here that we can find sweet victory. It is here where we can win battles. It is here where we can win wars. It’s here we can win against struggles, fears, addictions, weaknesses. It is by and with the name of the Lord that we can come against our giants with boldness. It does not matter what giant is in your path. There will be more. But if we come and bring ourselves to a place where we fully and truly rely on God we can have the boldness to walk right up to our giant and declare “I am taking you down because I come in the name of God!”

There is power in the name! Stop letting giants scare you away, stop letting giants have control over you and stop letting giants terrorize you. Now is the time that you can fully trust in God and take all the worries to Him. He is ready to help you. He is ready to equip you. He will help you slay your giant!

God bless!
