Saying Goodbye

My, Devotion to Him #294

Have you thought about your actions? Did you wish that you could go back in time and change them simply because the result of that action got you into trouble, caused pain to yourself or someone you loved. Maybe something you did damaged your marriage, or resulted in you getting fired.

Nevertheless, you’ve probably come to the same conclusion “If I only then what I know now.”

The problem with this mindset is that it allows us to hold onto the past and the result is a damaged future. Only wishing you knew then what you know now does not change the results. It does not change what has already taken place. We cannot undo history. It has already been written. However, what we are allowed to do instead of wishing that we did something different in the past is do something different in the past for a different result in the future.

“If only I didn’t say those hurtful things then, I might still have a marriage.”

“If only I had paid more attention, I might have a relationship with my children.”

“If only I had listened to my boss more, I might still have a job.”

The list could go on and on. Maybe you were around the wrong crowd and ended up with a felony charge. Or you’ve had an abortion and now the emotional toll is unbearable. Maybe you chose not to forgive your spouse which resulted in divorce. There is so many things we could say “If only I knew then.”

Still, there is something that can be done and something that needs to be said about the whole. You need to say goodbye to the past! The future will always remain bleak if you choose to never learn from mistakes, failures, or faults. A constant loop will start to play and you’ll run it over and over, constantly saying “If I only knew then.” Let’s change that mindset.

Verse Passage: 1 John 2:12 “I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name” – NIV

Verse Passage: Isaiah 43:25 “I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” – ESV

Verse Passage: Isaiah 43:18-19 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” – ESV

Give this to Him! Come and let it all out before God. He forgives, forgets, restores, and makes things new.

Let go of the past for it is in the past and cannot be undone. But you can learn from those choices and choose to make corrections for your future. He is calling you to let go of the past, because He wants to do a new thing in you.

Say goodbye and come to Him!

God bless,

  1. So very true. Thank you for saying it. We have all been there. WE have to learn to turn it all over to God. He is in control. Blessings to you Jacob and your family. 🙏❤️🙏❤️
