My, Devotion to Him #302
Let’s look in the Bible at some promises Jesus makes to us that are far-ranging, but each one is promised to everyone.
1. A Place
Verse Passage: John 14:2-4 “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” – ESV
Jesus promises that God’s house has many rooms. However, KJV actually translates rooms as mansions. God’s house has many mansions within itself.
Definition of mansion: a home that offers at least 5,000 square feet of space and at least five to six bedrooms. Mansions also display openly every essence of luxury, elegance, and comfort.
That is what awaits you in heaven. No need to worry about the mansion down here because your property is waiting up there with your name on it. Tax-free, no annual property fees due, no maintenance required, or electric bills. Free and clear!
Jesus then goes on and says that if He goes to prepare a place for us, then He will come back for us. And then say that we know the way to where He is going.
What way is that? Through Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. He is the only way to get to heaven.
2. Power
Verse Passage: John 14:12 “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” – NIV
Jesus tells us that we will have power like His, and even they will be greater because He is going to the Father. As followers, we are to be Christ-like, in which case this would make sense to be like Him even in ministry. Christ rose people from the dead, exorcised demons, healed the blind, mute, deaf, and crippled. While speaking against religious legalism and defended sinners while showing compassion toward them.
There is always responsibility with power. You can let power corrupt you in which you seeks to obtain and retain more and more while making it harder for others to follow suit or to even get on the playing field. Or you can humble yourself with it and seek goodness. Seek to glorify God in all that you do with it. That you build others up instead of being puffed up.
3. Presence
Verse Passage: John 14:16 “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever” – NIV
Jesus promises that the Father will give us another advocate, the “Holy Spirit,” who will help and be with us. In essence, the presence of God will be with us 24/7. If the Holy Spirit is with us and is a part of the Trinity, then we can safely declare that God is with us, and if He is with us, His presence is there, which means Jesus promised us untethered access to the presence.
4. Peace
Verse Passage: John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – NIV
Jesus promises us peace and not just a relaxed feeling for a few hours after we pray. No! The peace that He is referring here is; Knowing that the Lord is in control of all things and He is by your side. Taking that as absolute truth and resting (being at ease) in that.
God bless!
