The Proper Place To Worship

My, Devotion to Him #5

VERSE PASSAGE: John 4:16-21 “He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.” “I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.” “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.” “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.” – NIV

Now this didn’t take any studying, or college degree on the woman’s part. Jesus had just “revealed her darkest secret.” He told her the most intimate detail of her life. Anyone could have perceived Jesus was a prophet after something like that. This woman realized that she was dealing with more than just a man. God was speaking to her.

What was her reaction? She changed the subject sharply. She brought up a doctrinal issue concerning the proper place to worship, she was trying to get Jesus’ attention off of her. We all have a tendency to build walls of privacy around the intimate details of our lives. This is a natural human action. We are afraid to let anyone, especially God, look inside. But God already knows and He wants all of our heart. Jesus brought this woman right back to the subject of her personal relationship with God. The place of worship or the forms of worship weren’t important. God is looking for people who will open their hearts, even the hidden parts for Him to inhabit. Likewise today, Satan tries to get us occupied with everything except the one thing that counts.

God wants us to worship Him with everything we have. Not to box Him in and make sure it’s the proper place. God created the world. The whole earth is the proper place to worship Him. Don’t be side tracked by others as they try and force you to box Him in. Don’t be afraid to sit outside and thank God for everything He has done today. To worship Him while your walking down the side walk. God is seeking your attention today.

God bless,
