Verse passage: Mark 4:18-19 “Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” – NIV
I’ve come to see year in and year out how easy it is for us to get caught in the day to day living. If we are not careful this world will wrap us up with its tentacles and we would be completely tied up in the trivial things of this world.
These trivial matters can hold us down and keep us from entering into the things of God. It is the trivial things that can choke the Word from us. It is in the bondage of trivial matters that we are drained of faith and stripped of power.
The American Christian has to be on a higher alert due to this nation having so much material possessions. We can easily waste away as we take care of them. I was reading a book and the author mentioned that his friend told him that while he was in prayer the Lord spoke to him and said “This nation has become a nation of maintenance men. They maintain their houses, cars, nails, hair, clothes. The problem is that by the time they get done maintaining their “things” in this life, they often don’t have time to maintain their spirits.”
There is only one way we can make sure we have the time. We need to simplify our life. There is nothing more important than spending time with God. We need to be prepared to make whatever adjustments we need to in order to have time with Him. Whenever we think about taking on a new project, job, task, or whatever it may be we need to count the cost. I’m not talking about the cost in reference to money but time. We need to start asking ourselves “Can I afford this spiritually?”, “Do I have enough time to spare to get this done and still have enough time with God?”. If the answer is no, then sit that thing aside. I realize that you might be passing up on something you enjoy or might enjoy. Remember, your aim is not to please yourself. It’s to please God. When we sacrifice something to make time for Him or to keep our time with Him. He will always make sure your rewarded. Your time with Him will be well spent.
God bless.
