After God’s Own Heart

My, Devotion to Him #119

Today we are going to be talking about a person that is very important. David was a man that was after God’s own heart. Let’s look at few things in which would reveal why such a statement can be made. 


VERSE PASSAGE: Acts 13:22 “After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” – NIV


“A Man After God’s Own Heart”


The following words describe the heart of David as seen in his own writings. 



1. A Humble Heart


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 62:9 “Lowborn men are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie; if weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.” – NIV



2. A Reverent Heart


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 18:3 “I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.” – NIV



3. A Respectful Heart


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 31:9 “Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief.” – NIV



4. A Trusting Heart


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” – NIV



5. A Loving Heart


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 18:1 “I love you, O Lord, my strength.” – NIV



6. A Devoted Heart


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 4:7 “You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound.” – NIV



7. A Heart of Recognition


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 9:1 “I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.” – NIV



8. A Faithful Heart


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 23:6 “Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” – NIV



9. A Obedient Heart 


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 119:34 “Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart.” – NIV



10. A Repentant Heart


VERSE PASSAGE: Psalm 25:11 “For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.” – NIV



After reading these pieces that are apart of David’s heart. We can see clearly how this could very well be a man after God’s own heart. David’s example is truly an amazing map for how we are to live our life as Christians. These are key elements that every Christian needs.
