The Identity Series Part III: Chosen by God

My, Devotion to Him #192

Verse Passage: 1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” – NIV

I’m sure many of you have went into a business and picked up an application or you’ve been on a job listing website and submitted a resume. These applications ask a few questions and they are generally the same. What’s your name, age, address, skills, work history, etc. These companies are asking for your identity.

The question is, who are you? What is your identity?

You see many times we try to identify with these people and those people, with this or that. We do all this work on trying to identify with someone or something; because we are trying to find out who we are as a person.

The common questions on an application about your identity is the identity of you to a certain level. There is so much more about you than just your name, age, race, ect.

In 1 Peter we see that we are a “chosen people”

Definition of Chosen: Having been selected as the best

We are chosen people! We are a Royal Priesthood. Which means we all have equal access to God and no one has greater access. When we look back through Biblical history we find that the Tribe of Levi was appointed to lead worship and sacrifices in the Tabernacle and Temple. These priest were meditators between the people and God. However after the death and resurrection of Christ that appointment was ended.

We are all now royal priest. No man is a meditator between us and God. It is through Jesus Christ and Him alone that we have access to the Father. You have been chosen! This is your identity. A royal priesthood! Set apart for great things. Set apart for a purpose. You have been selected as the best by God! Take a firm stand on that very fact alone. You are apart of the CHOSEN.

God bless everyone!
