Verse Passage: 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – NIV
Many people make choices in life based on their family tree, “Well my family does this so this is what I will do”, “My family has a history of this, I guess I will also”, “I can’t go to college because no one in my family did”, “I can’t have nice things because my family doesn’t”, “I can’t have any success in my life because my family doesn’t”.
There is only one truth that lies within these statements. You cannot change your family tree. It is directly connected to you. It is because of that family tree that you are here today.
However, just because that tree is apart of you doesn’t mean you can’t control how it grows and its direction.
If there is Negativity, Godlessness, and other sorts of things you don’t want to associate with then you don’t have to. Your family tree is your background not your future. It’s apart of you but it doesn’t control you.
There was many times my parents steered the direction of my life. It is what they thought was best. They made a decision to not let certain parts of my family tree influence the direction of my growth. Now, as an adult I have to still make those decisions. I have to be mindful and alert on my family tree influence and if it will have any affect on my directional growth. As a father now I am in charge of watching my daughters growth. I will have to be careful of her family tree and decide which parts will influence her directional growth.
Those are world decisions. There is another decision that is made that changes everything. When we are saved we become new creatures in Christ. We have become new, our old self is gone. This is a major change or should be. This is making a decision to change the direction of our tree growth.
Stop letting your past dictate your future. God Has a plan and a purpose for your life. Stop letting your family tree hold you back from unleashing the talents God has given you.
Remind yourself daily that you are a new creature in Christ. Your old self is gone, your past is gone, the family tree that’s been holding you back and keeping you down is gone. Announce to yourself that you are a new person. It is in Christ that you will move forward. You can and will succeed. You can and will accomplish the plan God has for your life. You are identifying with the new you, because the old you is gone.
God bless!
