Jesus was physically resurrected. He was not just spiritually resurrected. Him being resurrected physically allowed Him to walk, talk, and eat. The whole chapter of John 21 talks about an event that took place where the disciples were fishing and Jesus appeared to them while He was on the shore. He performed another miracle in which His disciples had been fishing through the night but did not catch anything. In the morning Jesus appeared to them and He had them cast off again and they caught several fish. Jesus had them come to shore and eat breakfast with Him. This was the third time Jesus had appeared to them after His resurrection.
Even Luke 24:33-49 mentions the disciples encountering Jesus after His death. This was a different setting and even in this one Jesus talked and ate with them, then He ascended to Heaven. We are told that our bodies will be like His.
VERSE PASSAGE: 1 John 3:2 “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.” – NIV
After Jesus was resurrected He invited His disciples to touch Him (Luke 24:39).
Christ’s physically resurrected body is the model for our resurrected bodies on the resurrected earth. After our resurrection, we will not be ghost; we will be physical beings. Some people believe we will only live for a thousand years on the old earth as in Revelations 20:1-7. But even those who disagree on whether the Millennium should be understood literally agree that we will live forever, after the final rebellion and judgment, in resurrected bodies on the new earth as in Revelations 21-22.
When God speaks to us about having a “new body” do you ever shrug your shoulder and wonder what a new body would look like? I mean it’s a body, we know what bodies look like. We can imagine a body that is without pain or sickness. But can we actually imagine a body that’s perfect without our preset filters as to what that would entail? We will be raised to a new life, with new bodies, on a new earth.
In our resurrected bodies, we will be as physical as we are now. After the new earth is established and we are relocated there, we will forever be physical but no longer subjected to sin, death, suffering, and the curse.
Carpenters build and repair things. Christ is going to repair our bodies, our minds, and our attitudes. Don’t underestimate the plan of God! He created us. He has the blueprint to our creation and knows exactly what needs fixed. Just as Christ showed Himself in new ways and without restrictions to the natural laws that currently limit us in what we can and can’t do. Same shall be true for us.
God bless you all!
