My, Devotion to Him #202
Verse Passage: Daniel 1:20 “In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.” – NIV
Have you ever taken a test? It’s just harrowing. I had to take a test for my insurance license. In fact I have taken four, one for each license. They put you in this room and you answer the 80+ questions and each question just felt like they were trying to trip me up. Each question I was nervous on. Each answer I clicked I second guessed. Because I was nervous. No matter how much I had prepared myself this computer was watching and counting every right and wrong answer I was giving and in the end would make the determination if I passed or not. Which I ended up doing anyways.
Taking a test in school for me was no problem at all. But for some they get just as nervous because they are not in control of the grade. They have to answer to someone else to see if they passed or not.
Now imagine having to answer to a king with authority over your life! Not your grade for a class or some license but your actually life. The very person that would determine if you lived or not.
Daniel and his friends were only a few among thousands of exiles. Yet, when they had the chance to eat and drink from the conquering king’s kitchen, they literally bet their lives on a different diet. We find Daniel and his companions receiving off-the-chart grades in every subject after trading the king’s glorified fare for simplified food.
Verse Passage: 1 Corinthians 3:16 “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” – NIV
Verse Passage: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” – NIV
Paul reminds us that our bodies are God’s temples. Our food choices affect more than just our taste buds. They provide the nutrients that power our bodies. Over time those choices, whether healthy or not, become a lifestyle. In the end you will either be full of energy ready to take on whatever or sluggish, slow, and unable to do what’s needed.
This not only applies to our psychically bodies but also our spiritual bodies. Not feeding your spirit man properly will only result in a sluggish, slow, and unhealthy spiritual life. But when we feed on every Word of God we can count on having a spirit man full of energy willing and able to take on any and every spiritual battle that comes our way.
God bless.
