My, Devotion to Him #212
Verse Passage: Acts 2:2-4 “Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” – NIV
Acts 2 signifies a moment, a single event that would certainly change everything forever. It would change the life of Jesus’ followers and their mission on this earth. The promised Holy Spirit had come and a supernatural filling had occurred. It was in this very moment, that the supernatural interrupted the natural and they began speaking in other languages to the amazement of all who witnessed this event unfold.
This filling was the very presence of God making its home in the believers. But it wasn’t just God’s presence that made its home in them, this was also His very power. It’s this power that Jesus referred to as He prepared to ascend to Heaven and tasked them with spreading the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Verse Passage: Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – NIV
This was no easy mission. In fact, it was impossible naturally speaking. They were facing such intense persecution, God’s Word and God’s love were the only two weapons they were given. In spite of all the odds, in spite of all the pressure, in spite of all the persecution, in spite of all the hate the Gospel spread and followers of Christ were multiplied.
Now thousands of years later, we’re still witnessing this multiplication and it’s amazing! We’re not invited to just witness this. We are actually invited to participate in this event. As a believers in Christ, we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit, not as an accessory or add-on bonus, but as the operating system for our own life.
As you begin each day, remind yourself of this one fact. You are not alone. God’s very presence is within you and so is His power.
God bless you all!
