The Spirit Mission

My, Devotion to Him #216

Verse Passage: 1 Corinthians 2:10 “these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” – NIV

Have you ever found your up late reading an article and then BAM! it’s 4am and your reading some conspiracy theories and your in deep and paranoid now…. okay maybe not conspiracy theories but maybe something and you got so far down a rabbit hole that you couldn’t even remember what you were reading when you first started.

Well I had one of those nights. I came across some articles, stories, etc and well In 2003, NASA needed a name for the space rovers that were soon to be sent to explore Mars. There was a student essay contest. There were thousands of entries received.

The winner was Sofi Collis who was an American (well politically speaking she was Russian-American) so again she was American.

“I used to live in an orphanage. It was dark and cold and lonely. At night, I looked up at the sparkly sky and felt better. I dreamed I could fly there. In America, I can make all my dreams come true. Thank you for the ‘Spirit’ and the ‘Opportunity.’” – Sofi Collis

The two rovers were named “Spirit” and “Opportunity”

What was going to happen next would blow everyone’s mind.

Spirit and Opportunity were designed for a certain mission length which was only 90 days. The rovers landed in January of 2004.

Spirit went on to rove till March of 2010. That’s 6 years compared to the 90 day mission that it was destined for and designed for.

Opportunity went on to rove till June of 2018 that’s 14 years beyond the planned 90 day mission that it to was destined for and designed for. Opportunity holds the record for the longest distance driven by any off-Earth wheeled vehicle still to this day.

Paul wrote our message in 1 Corinthians. The passage continues on so let’s check it out.

Verse Passage: 1 Corinthians 2:11 “For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” – NIV

We can use the rover mission and the Bible and use them together for a message.

God sent humanity (us) a “rover”. This rover was on a mission of His own. The Spirit rover searched out the mysteries of a barren, windswept and dry planet. God’s Spirit, however, is infinite. Its whole purpose is to unveil to us the boundless depths of the mysteries of God. To make Him known to us. Just as NASA learned so much from these two rovers and even more since they lived far longer than was thought possible.

The Spirit rover has come to us to make the depth of Him known to us. To help us explore the unknown. To take us to a new level. To expand our thinking and bring us beyond our borders of comfortability. He’s unending and we can continue to explore Him daily by spending time with Him. The mission is continuing as it has for 2,000 years longer the world could ever believe. But in fact His Spirit rover is still on its mission. We have the opportunity of a lifetime to explore.

God bless!
