My, Devotion to Him #227

Verse Passage: Genesis 49:25 “because of your father’s God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the skies above, blessings of the deep springs below, blessings of the breast and womb.” – NIV

This passage comes at a time when Jacob was at the end of his life. He has called all his sons to him and he would release a prophetic message beginning in (Gen 49:1). One by one Jacob would share his heart with each son. When it came time for Joseph’s turn to receive his fathers prophetic message, he had blessings poured out on him. A blessing was more than just kind words, hopes, and prayers. In actuality a family blessing had carried hearty weight to it and was not treated as a brush off. Joseph was no doubt the most favored of the twelve sons. Jacob’s only desire was for Joseph to blessed above and beyond all others. 

Jacob left no stone unturned when it came time for Josephs blessing because he had endured so much pain and suffering. This was now his time to walk in victory and be triumph in this life. 

Jacob invoked the blessings of the same God who blessed his life despite his obvious shortcomings. Jacob had benefitted from God’s blessings. And now he was wanting Joseph to be blessed with not only the same blessing but a blessing beyond his. I want to stop here for minute because this such a great parent lesson right here. Jacob acknowledged he was blessed and knew he has benefitted from such blessings. Now, he was wanting his son to be blessed above what he was blessed with. That is what parents should wish, hope, and pray for when it comes to their children. We should only want the best for our children. And we should not stand in their way of their blessing. Many times I fear parents see their children gaining success and then they cut them down or roadblock them from success due to their lack of success or their success not being as abundant as their child’s. We should constantly be praying and standing firm that their blessing from the Lord will excel our children far beyond the success and the blessings we have gotten from the Lord. That their children shall do the same and their children’s children shall excel even farther than that. 

Jacob lost years to be in his sons life due to the circumstances surrounding Josephs life. Now, Jacob’s life journey was coming to an end and he wanted his son to have a very bless life. He not only wanted Joseph to have a blessed life but wanted him to also be surrounded by blessings. 

The Bible is clear on many things and that does include His desire to bless you. Do use caution when concerning this topic of “blessing” due to the disgusting and repugnant prosperity gospel that ravaged churches across the U.S and other parts of the world. 

God does wish and wants to unleash His favor, and protection on your life and around your life despite the obstacle you maybe facing right now.
