My, Devotion to Him #228
Verse Passage: Luke 1:19 “The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.” – NIV
Mary was engaged to Joseph. She was a virgin. How could she bear a son if there had been no sexual relation between these two?
Verse Passage: Luke 1:35 “The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.” – NIV
Verse Passage: Luke 1:38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.” – NIV
She was obedient to God, and done so in faith. Mary acknowledged her humble state. She believed the truth that God had scattered the proud and put down the mighty while at the same time exalted the lowly and filled the hungry with good things (see Luke 1:48-53)
And as parents we called to raise our kids in the ways of the Lord. From her knees Jesus learned the songs of the most High, from her lips He heard of the promises of God. He learned how to trust, obey, submit, and pray from a parental figure much like we as parents are called to teach our kids. Many will use Him being apart of the trinity and thus not needing to listen or be taught by His parents (even though this is not correct). There were many reasons why He become flesh and was born naturally and raised in a home with a mother and a father. This was a tried and true method that was approved and accepted by God. Also, a teachable moment for us.
Think of how Mary clapped her hands and smiled when He first walked, and then how she had wept when He bled on that cross. While He was with her, she did her best as a mother to raise Him in the way of the Lord and into who He was to become. Just because He was to be the redeemer and the lamb that would set us free did not negate her responsibility to raise Him up right and in the way of the Father. She was in fact the first to believe in Him.
God calls us to be faithful as Mary was. He calls us to stay by Jesus’ side always. Even knowing that He will come back and knowing the devil will be defeated forever does not in any way shape or form negate the responsibility that we have been called to.
God bless
