My, Devotion to Him #269
Verse Passage: Romans 12:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” – NIV
Beginning in 2013, NASA’s Human Research Program hosted six long-term studies designed to research various effects humans may have on a trip to Mars. The Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation (HI-SEAS). HI-SEAS IV began on August 28, 2015, and ran a full year. The six-person crew shared a 1,200 square foot, the solar-powered dome on the side of a Hawaiian volcano, with no physical contact with the outside world. A significant part of the study monitored how participants were able to interact with each other over long periods of isolation. Of special interest was how they got along in isolation as well as how they resolved the inevitable conflicts that arose.
German physicist Christiane Heinicke was a participant in the mission. Surprisingly, she credited emergencies for resolving some interpersonal tensions. “If you had some arguments,” she said, “it really helps to have an emergency to work on together because everyone has new motivation.”The scientists of HI-SEAS literally gave up a year of their lives as living sacrifices. They endured difficulties and discomfort to further a cause they believed in.
Now it’s time to take this and inject it into Christianity. God calls us to give ourselves to further His cause. We should be about doing kingdom business. We are to be progressing the agenda of the Lamb. We are called to live our lives in His service, for His purpose, for His cause. Sacrificing the petty, vain, short-term things of Earth. He promises out-of-this-world blessings as our eternal reward.
The question that is the most vital is, do you believe in the cause? Being a Christian is so much more than say “I believe in Christ”. Being a Christian is “I know that I am a sinner, I know that I am not worthy of anything, I know that I should pay for my sins. But there is a man named Jesus who loves me, who forgave me, who saved and sanctified me. It is because of His greatness, power, authority, love, mercy, grace, and sacrifice I want to follow Him. Because I am a follower, I will pursue the same goals He has. Which is to save and spread the good news. I will be that willing vessel. I will be that eager servant. I will be that disciple who will further His cause.”
That is Christianity.
There is so much untapped authority, blessings, connection, and ministry within the kingdom because so many Christians are not purposefully sacrificing in an effort to spread the Gospel. Our homes, work places, streets, cities, states, and nations are all ministry grounds. I am not saying you have to break out in a revival service while working but we are CALLED. As followers we need to make the effort to spread this wonderful news that we too found. Christ pulled us up, forgave us, saved us. If we truly believe in His cause and truly want to follow after Him, wouldn’t the solution be to spread the name of Jesus and be that living sacrifice, showing Christ in our actions and words?
God Bless.
