My, Devotion to Him #279
Verse Passage: Isaiah 35:6 “Then the lame man will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will sing; for waters will break out in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.” – NIV
God has given deer amazing natural camouflage.
As long as a deer remains still, it is very difficult to see. Deer can be grazing or lying down and be practically invisible. Even when a deer moves slowly and quietly, it is sometimes hard to get a good look at it.
But when it runs and leaps – that’s another matter
A whitetail deer can run up to thirty miles an hour. It can jump at least ten feet high and cover over thirty feet in a single leap! When a whitetail leaps, it flags its tail, lifting it straight into the air.
Though most of the deer are colored to blend into the surroundings, a flagged tail displays its bright white underside, clearly showing itself to any other deer in the area, telling it to be on the alert.
The Creator had to know about the deer’s extravagant leaping when He gave Isaiah this prophecy. As today’s verse illustrates, God knows when He comes into our lives and saves us, we cannot be quiet about it. Our joy knows no bounds! Gratitude overwhelms us and we don’t care who knows about it!
He is our boundless grace, the song in our hearts, and the water that turns the desert of our hearts into a glorious garden.
The second part to this verse is also amazing how it connects to every human. We are but a desert. Dry, unimpressive, treeless, some parts may have some interesting vegetation (skills, abilities, traits, etc) but it won’t last long and it’s just a small part of us, for the most part we are utterly desolate. Nothing can quench this long thirst we have. We’ve found plenty of mirages dancing in mockery. We’ve chased everyone just to get a drop of water. We are looking for something but can’t seem to find it. We are hopelessly unchanged. Our desert stretches for miles. We’ve hurt people when our sand filled winds change direction and show their might on the innocent. We’ve went on for years yearning for something different. Until one day we meet a man named Jesus. Suddenly water burst from our sands, streams of water bring life all around and this barren desert has been radically transformed.
Two takes on the same verse and yet the same outcome. When Jesus comes into our life things change. We leap for joy and excitement. We’ve been changed. The power of Christ is unlike anything we’ve ever seen or experienced. It is only by Him that the desolate desert is made fruitful and amazing. It is only by Him changing us completely that a joy overwhelms us and makes us want to run, jump, and shout.
God Bless
