My, Devotion to Him #278
Verse Passage: Psalm 34:10 “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.” – NIV
Often, I think I know what is best for me, only to find that it’s supposed goodness evades me like sand sifting through my fingers. With earnest effort, I strive for the object that promises to satisfy my desire. Yet, like a carrot on a stick, its benefit is nothing more than wishful thinking.
It’s like an amazing dessert to which better sense says “No,” though my flesh says “Yes!” Only later do I realize that my body sides with the verdict my good sense had stated beforehand!
This happens in relationships to possessions to jobs, so often I have discovered that the thing I wanted was not what it seemed. God withholding it from me was definitely a blessing in disguise.
I’m so grateful God hears every prayer we pray. He knows what we long for and not only does He hear but He answers every prayer. What we find though is the answered prayer is not always in the way we want. Sometimes He says “yes.” Sometimes “no.” And sometimes He just tells us to “wait a while” because we might need some growing or be better equipped to deal with the responsibilities that come with a certain answered prayer.
How many times in life I would’ve forgone heartache, confusion, frustration, or anything else if I would’ve just waited on God.
There are times when Ariah (my daughter) has asked for something and I have given her the exact same responses “no”, “yes”, or “just wait” sometimes she decides against my response if it’s not what she wanted and things don’t work out for her or not as good as they could’ve.
As God is our Father, He gives these to us because He is seeing the bigger picture as we are the children. We can learn hard lessons in life by not listening. Sometimes we can even try and go around what God has said and try to get what we want ourselves. But we end up chasing something that will evade us. The thing that can be learned also is by capturing what we wanted without God giving it to us might give us a different result in the end. There will be times when you may not wait for Him and you will still capture what you have wanted but it will not have the blessings of God on it and that is truly something you don’t want to miss.
Let’s continue to seek Him. Thank Him for His answers – even the “no’s” – because He promises we will never lack for blessings. And obedience to the Father will push us farther than we could ever imagine.
God bless.
