My, Devotion to Him #281
Verse Passage: Leviticus 26:6-9 “I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and no one will make you afraid. I will remove evil animals out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land. You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you. Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.“‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you. You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new. I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.”
Let the words sink in. Do you hear what God is saying? He was offering Israel the opportunity to live without any reason to fear man or beast. All they had to do was honor Him; giving God their hearts in total obedience and faith.
So why didn’t they do it? Why don’t you?
This was the command for such a reward. They were to have no idols or setup up an image or a sacred stone for themselves. Do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it.
Why are we so seduced by idols? These are images that are in the likeness of man or beast that we worship, give reverence to, and some even pray to. What is it about these figures that distract us from God?
Idolatry has plagued many generations of people throughout the Bible and today in the modern world Idolatry is alive and well. The saddest thing about this whole thing is Christians today play a big part in this.
Idolatry is described as having “Extreme admiration, love, or reverence for something or someone.”
We have to be ever so careful because giving anything direct power, assumption of power, or authority to do anything in our lives is a direct violation. Jesus Christ is our Advocate. He alone has the power to save and forgive. He alone is the only way to God. But we have given this assumption of power and/or authority to many objects and images. We have done so to a point that they have become an idol in our life.
Let us get into prayer with the Father and ask Him to point out these idols and tear them down from the pedestals we have placed them on. Let us place them in their appropriate place which is under God!
God bless.
