Watch Those Words

My, Devotion to Him #130

VERSE PASSAGE: Zephaniah 3:9 “Then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of the Lord and serve him shoulder to shoulder.” – NIV

Many of us have came to a point in time where we have said something that we regretted and we’re sorry for. In a heated disagreement some of the most regrettable things can be said. Many have met this unfortunate experience and many wish that they could go back in time and change what was said. But the words have been spoken and can never be unspoken. What we need to understand is that words that are spoken from our mouth originated from the heart. This is why it’s so important and critical that our hearts be in tune with God. If our heart, mind, and soul has been completely yielded to God. He will bring the sanctification. Even unto our lips.

The prophet who spoke this message had a valid and powerful message then and it certainly resonates for us today. We need to take note of it. We need to watch and see if our words are words of edification,  encouragement and joy. There is a saying that’s says “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” this saying is completely false and a very dangerous one. Words are very powerful. The Bible even states that there is life and death in words. We must be ever so careful with are words. Our words have the ability to lift someone up to new heights or tear them down to death.

God wants to remake us. He wants to purify our lips because they are not pleasing to Him. We must seek Him and seek to rid ourselves of unclean lips. We must guard our hearts from anger and emotions that stir up regrettable words. We must be on guard because we have the ability to bring destruction to people’s lives by only speaking words. It is ever so critical to be on guard and seek God for the cleaning of our lips and submitting ourselves completely to Him.

God bless!
