There have been so many books, stories, dreams, and visions about Heaven. But the best possible answer is found in the Bible itself. Scripture gives us a lot of images that are full of hints about Heaven. When we put each puzzle piece together we can see how they form a beautiful picture.
Heaven is a City.
Verse Passage: Hebrews 11:10 “For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” – NIV
Verse Passage: Hebrews 13:14 “For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.” – NIV
Now I know it can be hard to fathom that Heaven is a city. I mean how could we possible fit so many people into a single city? And live in peace, with no crime, poverty, etc. It would be so crowded right?
What is being talked about is the concept of the city. Which we all understand. Cities typically have people of course, buildings of various sizes, various activities for groups of people, gatherings, athletic teams, commerce, services, and the list can go on.
The city that is being talked about is this very concept. That Heaven is like a city. It won’t be plain. There will be people of various cultures and each culture can be seen throughout the city. There will be all kinds of things for people to do and see as there is in a earthly city.
Heaven is a Country.
Stay with me now. I know I just said Heaven was a city and now it seems I’m over stretching here and staying Heaven is a country. I mean how can it be a city and yet a country. It doesn’t make sense. Maybe a state of a certain size but surely not a country right?
Verse Passage: Hebrews 11:16 “Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.” – NIV
We know about countries as we have many on this earth. As we know the appearance of this earth and set up we have insight as to what the new earth will be like.
Could you even imagine this earth without abundant rivers? All full of life and all over the world. Each one having its own uniqueness and size. A world without amazing and beautiful mountains? Or even without the trees? A world without a single flower? If this is to hard to imagine then don’t try it with the New Earth.
We can find “New Earth” saying in several bible verses and the great thing about that is the word “earth”. If that word means anything it shall also in the New Earth.
A lot of what Heaven will be like can be found in Revelations chapter 21 & 22.
There is references made also throughout the Bible about the old Heaven and Earth passing away and the new coming. Just like when you tear down a house and rebuild. Or get a brand new car and it looks better than the old one, it runs better also, it’s all around a better version of your old one. Same is true for the New Heaven & Earth. The old will pass but the new will come. It will be better than they are now. They will both have the same essential components as the old but they will essentially be better than before.
The New Heaven & Earth will be God’s dwelling place. Which one of the things we know about God is His perfection and so we can be assured that both of these will be nonetheless absolutely perfect in every way.
The New Earth will be our home. It will be ours for ever. The resurrected will live there in absolute harmony. And all will be family. None will be split into factions that detest the other. All people from across the world in unison. All happy to be with each other and all loving each other. Family we all will be forever and ever.
